Our People

This section is about the members of the brigade, both past and present.

Meet the Crew is a new section of our website that has profiles of brigade members.  We will continue to add profiles over the coming weeks as time permits.

Current members, foundation members, and a complete list of the many members who have, at some time, belonged to S.V.V.F.B. since its inception in 1940.

The New Zealand Fire Service and The United Fire Brigades' Association of New Zealand award service medals to firefighters who have completed designated lengths of service. The first of these is a silver medal that is awarded after five years. After each additional two years, members are awarded a silver bar, which is appended to the ribbon of their 5-year medal.

A long-service medal is awarded after 14 years of service. Then, after 25 years, members are presented with the much coveted Gold Star medal. On extremely rare ocassions, some members of the NZFS also go on to obtain a Double Gold Star for an astonishing 50 years of service.

In this section of our website, we have a full list of the brigade's Life Honorary members, as well as the recipients of the brigade's Firefighter of the Year trophy and the George Walker Perpetual Plate.

These are the members of S.V.V.F.B. who hold, or have held, the key management positions of Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.
