Girl bounces back from 30m fall

A nine-year-old Stokes Valley "Miracle" is back at home and recovering from injuries she suffered in a near-fatal fall from a homemade rope swing.

Loren Tibbs fell more than 30 metres from the swing, in Logie St, Stokes Valley, on August 15.  She spent the next month in Wellington and Hutt hospitals with a fractured skull and brain injury.  But the slightly built pupil from Tui Glen School is now at home managing a smile as she tells her tale.

Her ordeal began about 5pm when she and a friend went to play on the swing, put up years ago by local kids. She set sail on the swing, which was knotted at the bottom with a stick to sit on, when the rope snapped.  She flew through the air, landing down the steep bank.
